The house

The White Eagle opened in 1905 as a working saloon and boarding house on the river side of Portland. It had a bordello upstairs and, by local memory, a relationship with the shanghai tunnels below. The two ghosts the house names are Sam, a longshoreman who still wants the bar, and Rose, a woman associated with the upstairs rooms, who is less interested in sharing. McMenamins kept the building a public house: beer, pub food, a stage, a few rooms. You can eat here without buying a haunting. You can also take a room and spend the night arguing with Rose about who booked it first.

A McMenamins ale and a plate of something fried. Sit at the bar for Sam. If you take a room, you are ordering the other tasting menu — the one that is not on paper.
