The house
The Congress opened for the 1893 World’s Fair and has been accumulating rumor ever since: sealed floors, a child on twelve, shadows that do not belong to guests. It is still a working hotel on Michigan Avenue, with a bar and dining for people who are not checking in. Ghost tours treat the sidewalk like a stage. You can go inside and order a drink. That is the difference between a legend and a table.
A drink in the lobby bar. Eat if the restaurant is seating. Do not go looking for sealed floors. The house will not give you a key to twelve, and you do not need one for supper.
