The Red Lion Pub
The house
The Red Lion sits at 2446 North Lincoln, across from the theater where Dillinger was shot. The original pub was demolished; this one rose on the same lot in 2014, and the house did not take the hint. Sharon, who died of measles in 1959 when the site was still residential, remains the name staff use: books off shelves, a sound system with its own opinions, latched windows that prefer to be open. A man is reported upstairs. Ghost tours treat this as one of Chicago’s essential rooms. You can treat it as fish and chips. Both readings work.
Fish and chips and a pint by the fire. Sit upstairs if you came for Sharon. The Biograph is across the street if you want the other Lincoln Park ghost story with your malt vinegar.
