The house

Fireside has been a tavern since 1904, built by Peter Eberhardt on Ravenswood just south of Rosehill — Chicago’s great Victorian cemetery. The house itself tells diners it is haunted. Patrons report sensations, marks on walls, the feeling that something walked over from the graves. WGN sat here for Chicago’s Best Haunted Restaurants. Ghost hunters still use it as a last stop before the cemetery gates. The kitchen runs late. The dead have no last call.

Eat in the dining room, not only the bar. Order something that will still be good at midnight. Rosehill is across the street if you want the second chapter on foot — stay on the public paths.
