The house

Ashbary sits on Archer Avenue in the stretch between the old Willowbrook and Resurrection Cemetery — the corridor people still call Mary’s. Employees have reported a family of four, late 1800s, who were on this ground before the coffee house was: a hard father, a frightened mother, a boy, a sad little girl. A cup has left a table toward staff. A planchette has spun with no fingers on it. The second floor goes cold. The wooden floor walks. The house allows psychic fairs and does not allow séances, which is a very specific kind of confidence. Ghostly Voices works this limestone river valley.
