The house

Chicago Firehouse is Engine Company 104’s 1905 station on South Michigan, converted to a restaurant that still looks like a house of men who ran toward smoke. The haunt is the building: poles, brick, the possibility that not every shift ended. It is a public steak-and-American room in the South Loop. Come as a diner. The company does not need a séance to have been here.

A steak in the bay. The architecture is the appetizer. Prairie Avenue’s dead are a short walk if you want a second course of houses.
