The house

The Pioneer opened in 1913 and still looks like a Western that forgot to wrap. In 1915 a gunfight left bullet holes in the bar that the house never patched. In 1942 Clark Gable waited here for news of Carole Lombard’s plane, which had gone down in the mountains nearby; he did not get the news he wanted. Staff talk about a piano that plays, cowboys who remain after last call, and a room that is busier than the living headcount. It is a working saloon, not a set. Vegas is forty minutes away and a century younger.

The Ghost Burger is correctly named and correctly unfussy. Drink beer. Look at the bullet holes. This is not a tasting menu. It is a desert that still has a barstool for you.
