The house

The inn dates to 1820. The story attached to it is Anna: a young woman who, depending on the telling, was a bride or a mistress, and who fell — or jumped — from an upstairs window when the man she waited for did not return. Room 204 is her room. Guests report a woman at the foot of the bed, the scent of perfume, packed clothes undone, a window that prefers to be open. You do not have to sleep here to eat here. The dining rooms are among Savannah’s more serious kitchens, and the staff will talk about Anna the way other houses talk about a regular. She is not a mascot. She is the reason 204 books out.

She-crab soup, then whatever fish is being treated with pecans. Dine even if you are not brave enough for 204. The kitchen is the argument; Anna is the aftertaste.
